It's a beautiful game, with lots of color and dynamism. The story has a slightly children's-book writing style to it, which is sadly common in videogames, but it's told in a beautiful and suspenseful interlocking way, and beneath the children's-book style are some really very touching and powerful themes about the real world. Genuine orbital mechanics means that you are actually exploring and mastering a new way of moving in the world, instead of the typical videogame "exploring" by hopping around on a terrain map fighting random-encounter skeleton enemies. Bioshock Infinite, the Dishonored games, Half-Life 2Ī little more about The Outer Wilds and Edith Finch:Outer Wilds has a really amazing, original design creating an experience of exploration unlike any other game. Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, and Soma The Stanley Parable, and The Beginner's Guide The Outer Wilds (not "the outer worlds"! that's a different game!) Here are some other games which, to me, have a similarly rich web of ideas: People always talk about puzzle games in relation to The Witness, but I think what's most unique and special about the game is the way everything is connected thematically - gameplay, environments, story, etc all come together to communicate the game's ideas. a lot of first-person puzzle games out there are either just too simple, or else they are much more like old-school adventure games, without the consistent design ethos of a modern puzzle game (if you like these, though, I recommend " FRACT OSC"). I'd caution against Obduction, QUBE 2, Talos Principle, etc. I'd also recommend " Perspective", " Four Sided Fantasy", " HyperRouge", " Starseed Pilgrim". I second The Swapper, Fidel: Dungeon Rescue, and Portal 2. People have done pretty well with puzzle-game recommendations in this thread. Hello! For context on my recommendations, I'm the guy who made the "Examining The Witness" videos (I'll do more later, probably) and the free Braid mod " Braid: More Now Than Ever". r/thewitnessirl (note that r/thewitness has no rule forbidding r/thewitnessirl-type content).Fan-made User-generated Witness Puzzle Website "The Windmill" Related Subreddits:.Posts asking others to literally play the game for you will be deleted.
